About Keith

Keith Brooks is a communications strategist, writer and expert content creator currently based in Lisbon, Portugal.

Throughout his career, he has worked in the non-profit sector to develop and manage communication strategies and campaigns to effectuate systemic change, with a primary focus on online communications, ranging from content creation, development and management, narrative reframing, and branding and identity.

Keith has been immensely grateful to support and center the leadership of those most marginalized -- particularly Indigenous girls, women, femmes, trans and gender expansive people of color, LGBTQIA2S+ people and other communities impacted by systemic injustices. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, his experience as a co-coordinator for the Fairness Campaign, a human rights organization with a dual focus on legislative equality for queer people and racial justice, provided him an intersectional perspective on how he approaches communications. His personhood and approach to storytelling is deeply shaped by the lived experiences, advocacy and all the lessons shared from underserved communities throughout the years.

Keith graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky in 2007 with a B.A. in Print Journalism, and holds a Certificate in Data Visualization from New York University’s Stern School of Business (2019). Over the past decade, he has combined his education as a journalist, love for visual expression, online storytelling and a socially conscious lens to uplift the voices and stories of others, and to create and find personal meaning.

Outside of his profession, Keith enjoys learning languages (he speaks English, Spanish, Norwegian, Turkish and Portuguese) and extreme travel adventures, having visited 80 countries. His early exposure and curiosity about other tongues took hold as a child, leading him to learn Norwegian for five years after embarking on a linguistic experiment that was also featured on Public Radio International. Keith is also an active student of karate through Traditional Okinawan Karate of Brooklyn. His current project is Keith Meets World, a travel guide and resource website inspired by his wholehearted passion for traveling and experiences as a Black, queer traveler.
